As part of the celebrations for the opening of the new P&W Community Hall, the annual cricket match between Peldon and Wigborough took place on Sunday September 3rd 2017. It became a jolly affair with some players turning out for both sides when it appeared that one team were men or women short (one woman played this year). Even though Wigborough had a well-deserved victory, it was (really) about the two villages getting together and enjoying an afternoon of fun in good spirits.
Talking of spirits, whilst play went on the ‘crowd’ enjoyed Pimms, beer or wine, accompanied by either a hot dog or burger, with thanks to the Kearney family. Those requiring non-alcoholic drinks enjoyed tea, coffee and cake whilst the children played on the bouncy castle.
Huge thanks are due to those who manned the Pimms and cake gazebos, those who ran a very successful raffle, those who donated cakes and raffle prizes, and of course all the players who turned out for the afternoon.
Takings amounted to £346.40 which has been divided between the 2 villages, and will be used by the Wigborough Events Group and the Friends of St. Mary’s Peldon for future events. It is hoped that we can once more make this very entertaining afternoon and annual event where we can all watch the splendour of the Cricket Match between Peldon and Wigborough.
