As part of the celebrations for the opening of the new P&W Community Hall, the annual cricket match between Peldon and the Wigboroughs took place on Sunday September 3rd 2017. It became a jolly affair with some players turning out for both sides when it appeared that one team were men or women short (one woman played this year). Even though the Wigboroughs had a well-deserved victory, it was (really) about the villages getting together and having fun.
During play the crowd enjoyed Pimms, beer or wine, accompanied by either a hot dog or burger, with thanks to the Kearney family. Those requiring non-alcoholic drinks enjoyed tea, coffee and cake whilst the children played on the bouncy castle.
Huge thanks are due to those who manned the Pimms and cake gazebos, those who ran a very successful raffle, those who donated cakes and raffle prizes, and of course all the players who turned out for the afternoon.
The profit of £346.40 was divided between the Wigborough Events Group and the Friends of St. Mary’s Peldon. We hope this can be an annual event, combining a very entertaining afternoon and the splendour of the Cricket Match between Peldon and Wigborough.
