Earlier this year the Friends applied for Festival Funding – a scheme run by Colchester Borough Council for supporting local community events, such as the Peldon Village Fete.
The chances of a little village like Peldon receiving a portion of this funding seemed unlikely, but it was agreed that “if you don’t ask you don’t get…” So somewhat belatedly, we submitted the forms. There were of course, hoops to jump through, criteria to meet, and evidence of our worthiness to prove. It was now a waiting game to see whether our application would be successful..
But we didn’t have to wait long. At the end of March the Fund told us that provisionally we were eligible for funding of up to £250 !
We were absolutely delighted, especially in light of competition for such funding in this year of royal celebrations. And what a bonus too, in this the tenth anniversary of our formation. This extra funding mean that, at long last, we can afford to hire a Brass Band for our festivities!
The Fete takes place on Saturday 11th June between 12 and 4pm, in the grounds of Peldon Village Hall. It will offer traditional family fun:
Bar with beer, Pimms etc.
Cream teas, cakes, savouries
Caprilate ice cream
Grand Draw (1st prize £100)
and the highlight of the afternoon – Long Melford Brass Band!
Do come and join us – it’s probably the last Peldon Fete to be run from the current village hall.
Peldon Village Fete is an annual community event, run by the Friends of St Mary’s, to raise funds to help maintain, repair, restore and improve the fabric of our historic and beautiful church… an ongoing project!
