‘Storm along! Roll along!’ – report

A fine time was had by a large crowd at the Peldon and Wigboroughs Community Hall on the 16th November, at an evening of sea shanties and stories.
.
Quire (Colchester World Music Choir) were out in force, filling the stage and giving us gave us a fine selection of sea shanties and other songs of the sea. The Hoolies from Wivenhoe were seven-strong, plus a range of instruments, treating us a selection of sea shanties old and new, with a lot of humour thrown in. Bob Needham, the Colchester Town Crier and a member of The Hoolies, gave a fine rendition about Colchester, and Elaine Barker told captivating stories about local smuggling and sea captains, and the mysteries of local rivers and creeks.
.
All-in-all a very entertaining evening. Our thanks to all performers, the hard-working bar staff, and those setting up and clearing up. Profits will go to Seafarers UK, a charity that provides help to seafarers and their families when they fall on hard times.
