These events were hosted by the Friends and the PCC on the 1st and 2nd of October.
On the Saturday morning was the Peldon Harvest, consisting of the Tower being open with flying teddies, refreshments available, harvest flowers and arrangements, and the weighing of the ‘Great Potato Challenge’. This is a competition where the heaviest crop from a single potato wins a prize, with a class for children and one for adults. This time there were not many takers, but the event was won (overall) by little George from over the road with a massive bag of 2.65 kg from just one small potato, almost a kilo heavier than the next nearest! Well done to all who took part!
On the Saturday evening Harvest Supper was held in the church, with traditional village fare of food and drink (bring a bottle of course) with songs and stories, all in wonderful company. Many thanks to all who helped.
On Sunday morning was a procession around the village centre with a wheelbarrow to collect offerings for the Colchester Night Shelter and Food Bank. This was followed by a traditional Harvest Festival Service.
The donated offerings (canned and boxed food and garden produce) were delivered to the two good causes the next day. They were more than in previous years, so a big Thank You to all that donated.
