The ‘Fling’ has been a part of the Peldon Year for over 30 years. It has continued through good times and bad, but in recently it’s become a major highlight of the year for Peldon and the surrounding area.
This time we were at Abberton & Langenhoe Village hall with 54 people plus members of the Colchester Caledonian Society. The evening started with a Piper leading the procession followed by the Addressing of the Haggis, complete with ritual stabbing! We then tucked into a wonderful haggis with tatties and neeps, with other options available, followed by a plethora of desserts.
There followed the usual Scottish dancing, ably led by the Caledonian Society’s members. What is always so welcome is seeing newcomers listening attentively to the advice on dance moves, then clapping their fellow dancers in a hectic dance.
Many thanks to the catering team for the wonderful food, the Caledonian Society for the formalities, music and helping the dancers, and those who put in so much work behind the scenes.
”We had a great time yet again. Thank you to everyone for making it such an enjoyable evening”
